Giving Tuesday Now, a global day of emergency giving, was on Tuesday, May 5. Our Outdoor Lab community came together to raise $6,400! Though we still have further to go, this funding is a fantastic start- and is inspiring us to continue strong in our mission to make sure ALL students attend Outdoor Lab, regardless of ability or disability.
The funds will go directly to the Outdoor Lab schools to help make up for lost Medicaid funding. This money will contribute to hiring a new nurse and will get the schools one step closer to having their own electric wheelchairs.
We know the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to throw us new challenges. We are ready. We will adapt. We aren't going anywhere and neither is Outdoor Lab. We are grateful for our loyal, inspiring, heart-driven donors. Thank you for sticking it out with us. Twila Shyrock, lovingly known to many as "Mama Twila", has a profound story. Once we heard about her journey, we knew it needed to be shared. We always say that Outdoor Lab is more than a week on the trails, that it's a lifetime. Stories like this one are why we believe it.

Meet Jen, Our Amazing Intern Jen has worked at Outdoor Lab Foundation since January. We are LUCKY to have her... and since we highlight all of our other interns, we decided to interview her. Read her answers, below!
OLF: Where are you from? Jen: I was born and raised in Houston, Texas.
OLF: What's your background? Jen: I went to school for Nursing, but realized in my last semester that I wanted to head in a different direction. I had gotten my first Siberian Husky when I bought my first house and fell in love with the breed. After graduating nursing school I began training dogs and going to dog shows. I ended up with multiple dogs of my own as well as other clients' dogs.
OLF: How did Colorado end up in the picture? Jen: I had my son, Gabriel, in 2016 and then moved to Colorado to be with my mother. I moved to the Denver metro area and continued working with dogs while taking some classes through the Jefferson County Workforce Center to see what interested me.
OLF: Why did you choose us? Jen: I decided that an internship would be great to enhance my skills and after interviewing at several places including Outdoor Lab Foundation, I was thrilled to get a call back and offer for an internship position!
OLF: What have you gained from your internship? Jen: I’ve always enjoyed working with others and making new connections. Also, having run my own business, the marketing aspect with Outdoor Lab Foundation seemed right up my alley. I was excited to learn new skills and get back into the swing of a daytime position. I'd never thought of working in the nonprofit sector, however now would love the opportunity to continue working with another. Helping others in need is really fulfilling.
OLF: Anything else you'd like to add? Jen: I’ve worked with OLF since January of this year, and I’ve enjoyed working with these ladies so much. I feel blessed to have found such a great opportunity and I hope to take a lot of what I learned moving forward.
PRQ Exteriors Supports Their Community PRQ Exteriors was a supporter of Outdoor Lab Foundation the minute we met them. Based out of Golden, they knew all about the program -their owner and employees each attended as 6th grade students. One of their first questions to us was, "How can we help?" They're personable and responsive. And for them, no job is too small! PRQ Exteriors has a team and systems in place to seamlessly coordinate any type of repair their clients' property may encounter. They will provide a thorough inspection, detailed estimate and superb communication.
PLUS, if you decide to work with them, they kick $250 back to the Outdoor Lab Foundation.
"I have worked with other roofing contractors in the past, and I have to say PRQ Exteriors is far superior to the rest. They show up on time and their cleanliness is second to none." -Tammy Hall, Maximum Property Management
Chapman Orthodontics Open With New Screening Process Cloudnexion Donates Gift Cards to Families in Need Chapman Orthodontics, a long-time supporter of Outdoor Lab Foundation, has announced they're officially back to seeing patients. They're doing so cautiously, keeping patient safety in mind. They've started to do a screening check-in process and are continuing to get everyone re-scheduled from being gone so long.
Whether you've considered braces or Invisalign for yourself, or are starting to look into it for your kids, Chapman Orthodontics off of 38th in Wheat Ridge is a great, community-oriented choice. Jake Cummins with Cloudnexion has been an avid Outdoor Lab Foundation supporter for many years. A current individual donor and community sponsor, Mr. Cummins was one of the first people to reach out to us to understand how he could help the community during COVID-19.
Tarah Blazek, the Outdoor Lab Program Coordinator, worked with OLF staff to understand how we could connect Mr. Cummins to some of the greatest needs that our local schools were facing. Some of the most urgent needs expressed by our local schools was making sure Jeffco families have the essentials, including groceries.
So, as Mr. Cummins always has, he made sure this would happen. He donated over 40 King Soopers gift cards to Lumberg Elementary located in Edgewater to do “his part” as we navigate this pandemic.
Outdoor Lab Foundation is so humbled to know and work with people like Mr. Cummins and Cloudnexion.
Are you interested in learning more about services Cloudnexion offers? Take a look. On behalf of the entire Outdoor Lab Foundation staff and board of directors, we are humbled and proud to walk with you, Mr. Cummins.
