Interns are the Lifeblood to Outdoor Lab Programming

Did you know over 40 interns teach at Outdoor Lab each school year?  They work as part of a team to help students learn about subjects like ecology, physics, hydrology, navigation, archery and history.

Interns guide students in learning stewardship of themselves, their community and the environment.

Take Alex, for example. She attended Green Mountain High School and plans to attend CU Boulder in the fall:

"My main goal coming up to Outdoor Lab was to inspire and connect the 6th grade students. I wanted to be a positive role that helps the team of 6th graders and high school leaders develop life skills like leadership and stewardship."

Next, meet Kyle. He was an intern this year at Mt. Evans. He graduated from Ralston Valley High School. After high school, he plans to go into a mechanical engineering program at Mesa State or Fort Lewis.

“I want to show sixth graders how important the outdoors are by sharing my love and passion [for the outdoors] with them. I want to be a leader to help encourage students to be stewards of the environment and the community.”

High School Leaders Rock another Year

This year, 867 High School Leaders served at least one week at Outdoor Lab Schools. THAT'S 4,335 DAYS OF SERVICE TO OUTDOOR LAB!

We know this is no small feat for these high school students. They have to do make-up work and arrange their already very busy schedules.

To all of the 2018-2019 High School Leaders, their parents, and the teachers that made it happen: THANK YOU!

Lakewood Legacy Foundation Awards $15,000

The Lakewood Legacy Foundation approved The Outdoor Lab Foundation for $15,000, which was $5,000 more than last year!

The funds will go directly toward Lakewood student tuition. Thanks to all who came out to support us during the vote!

High Potential Week was a Hoot!

Last week was High Potential Week at both Outdoor Lab Schools!

Students came home both EXHAUSTED and INSPIRED. Here's the scoop: nominated students get to attend Outdoor Lab for an extra week to concentrate on one subject, which takes their learning to new levels.

They get to choose from Aquatic Field Biology, Art Adventure, Environmental CSI, Search & Rescue and Space Exploration.

These photos are from the Search and Rescue class, where students learned first-hand what it'd be like to be on a search and rescue team, which included a visit from a helicopter. Notice the stretchers and the ambulance.

Be on the lookout for how your 6th grade student might be able to attend next year!
