Tessa Ann Peterson

Windy Peak Intern

New or Returning Intern: New
Hometown: Arvada

Why did you want to be an Intern?
Ever since I was little I always wanted to live in the mountains and to my this was the perfect opportunity. However that is not the only reason, I was to take this time to give to others. I find that the more of my time that I give to others the greater the reward is in the end. Also, teaching is a passion of mine and I truly believe that this is an amazing opportunity to explore my passion further and discover if it is truly the path that I want to take in life.

What do you look most forward to during your internship?
I look forward to connecting to kids and making them feel that they are welcomed at Mt Evans. It is my mission to make sure that I can connect with each kid I see in someway and that they always feel that they can come to me. I know that I only have a limited time with each student that comes to Mt Evans but a moment is all that I need to make a lasting impact.

What skills do you hope to gain from this experience?
I hope to gain a better understanding of myself and to discover if teaching is my true passion. But not only that, I hope to gain friends that will last for a very long time. I hope to find a greater part of myself. I know that it will be a long journey but I am excited to move forward with it through every struggle and success.

If you attended Outdoor Lab as a 6th grade student, where did you go and what was your favorite experience?
When I was in 6th grade I attended Outdoor lab at Mt Evans. I remember enjoying the special interest class that I took the most because I knew the high school leader personally. The class was survival and it was fun trying to come up with crazy ways to survive based on what was around us.

Did you serve as a High School Leader? If yes, where did you serve and what was your favorite experience?
I served as a High school leader at both Windy Peak and Mt Evans. Overall my favorite experience would be sitting at my meal table everyday. I loved to see how the kids transformed over the week to become respectful towards everyone and how they become not only a team but a family within their own group.

Do you have plans for after your Internship? If so, what are they?
My plans keep changing everyday but I know that a couple things are for sure. College and getting another job. Other than that I’ll see where my life takes me.
