Windy Peak Intern

New or Returning Intern: Returning

What was your most memorable experience as an intern in your first semester?
In my first semester, my most memorable experience was when I had to help a specific student through a medical issue. I had to help him every morning and night down in the clinic with another intern, Mr. Houston. On Friday I asked this student if he had a good week and got the normal, “Yeah, it was fun,” response. After a couple of weeks the principal told me and the other intern that he had received an email from the kid’s mom. The mom said that her son was unable to stop talking about the awesome experience that Mr. Houston and I had given him. Reading over the email showed me that all of the little things that I do as an intern add up and make the week the best it can be for all students, it was an incredibly humbling experience.

What was your biggest take-away from the experience so far?
My biggest takeaway from my experiences so far is that a little goes a long way. It seems cliche but the little efforts that are made do truly go a long way to make the experience for students one they’ll never forget.

What have your learned about yourself?
I have learned that I am super interested in astronomy. Again with Mr. Houston, we would spend many nights up in the Astronomy Center here talking about space and I would be able to think deeper into space than just about ever before. I can’t thank him enough for everything he did to show me that.

What goals do you have for your 2nd semester interning?
For my second semester I want to make it the best semester I can for the other new interns. As a leader in this awesome group I want to provide them with the materials and the experiences for them to enjoy and remember this semester, as well as becoming prepared for the world later in life. I also would like to learn about my leadership and teaching styles further in depth than I was able to in my first semester. I would like to grow as a leader and an educator so that later in life I am able to utilize these skills however I need to.

Do you have plans for after your Internship? If so, what are they?
Once I finish this semester I will be done with college a semester early. I will try to spend that extra semester working and playing competitive disc golf, as well as spending as much time as I can snowboarding, I have a couple of disc golf tournaments out of state that I am planning on going to, as well as many in state that I plan on participating in. I will go to college next fall, likely in the Western U.S. and then I would like to move somewhere out of Colorado most likely somewhere further west that is less crowded.
