New or Returning Intern: New
Why did you want to be an Intern?
I love helping people. I found that my experiences as a high school leader drove me to love interacting with the sixth grade students as they learned and grew as individuals and a group.
What do you look most forward to during your internship?
I am most looking forward to helping the students adjust to living in a new environment with their classmates. So far my favorite part of being an intern is the self-fulfillment I have gained from the students as they learn to respect the leaders and each other.
What skills do you hope to gain from this experience?
I hope to gain interaction skills so I can more effectively communicate with the teachers, students, and leaders. I also hope to gain teaching and leading experiences in an outdoor setting, and most importantly I hope to Impact kids in a positive way.
If you attended Outdoor Lab as a 6th grade student, where did you go and what was your favorite experience?
In 6th grade I went to wonderful Mount Evans. I remember when I was in archery on one of our last shooting rounds, three students (myself included) hit the innermost yellow circle closest to the bulls eye.
Did you serve as a High School Leader? If yes, where did you serve and what was your favorite experience?
I have been a high school leader three times. Twice at Mount Evans and once at Windy Peak. As a leader I very much enjoyed going to a school where I could be professional yet still have fun. I loved how the students will run up to me in a grocery store or any random place they see me, they want me to meet their parents as they go off telling a story about a great experience that they had during their week.
Do you have plans for after your Internship? If so, what are they?
I plan on going to Fort Lewis for college in the fall of 2017 so I can start studying adventure education as my major and either business or psychology as a minor. After college I want a job as a camp director, camp counselor, or a program director at a summer camp. I want to find jobs where I can work with kids and help them grow as individuals.
