Danielle Minniear

Windy Peak Intern

New or Returning Intern: New
Hometown: La Junta

Why did you want to be an Intern?
I wanted to be an intern because the experience I had here as a 6th grader and a High School Leader was extraordinary. I adore being outside. I knew as a High School Leader, being an intern would be something I would like to invest my time in. I think being apart of something that is beneficial and helps so many students grow is a great thing.

What do you look most forward to during your internship?
What I look most forward to during my internship would be gaining new experiences and growing as a person. I also look forward to creating a community with the other interns, and for the 6th graders, making sure the students are making this place their home for the week. Another thing that I look forward to is learning new things from 6th graders and watching them grow from the first day to the last day.

What skills do you hope to gain from this experience?
I want to expand my skills that I already have. But, also gain communication skills, and life skills that will be benefit after this internship that I will not be able to learn inside a classroom.

If you attended Outdoor Lab as a 6th grade student, where did you go and what was your favorite experience?
As a 6th grader, I attended Mount Evans. My favorite experience was bunkhouse time! My High School leaders created such a community, I gained new friends from the other school. A lot of the new friendships I created as a 6th grader, I still know them and still talk to them!

Did you serve as a High School Leader? If yes, where did you serve and what was your favorite experience?
I was a High School Leader at Mount Evans. I have a lot of great experiences there, but I would say that teaching my own class of Geosphere was great! The connection I made with the students was also a great experience to me. The first day of being a leader, I didn’t make connections with the students. By the end of the week, I made those connections. After being a High School Leader, I received a plentiful amount of letters from students saying how huge of a part I was of their week being great. To make a positive impact on 6th graders was a very great feeling.

Do you have plans for after your Internship? If so, what are they?
My plans after my internship would be, that I would like to work at a Summer Camp. Next fall, I would like to continue my education in Hawaii.
